City Council Meeting Regarding Transportation Committee Recommendations
July 3, 2023Please be aware that the City’s Trending in Torrance webpage for Airport Noise Information was recently updated to include an upcoming City Council agenda item scheduled for July 25, 2023. The subject agenda item will bring forth recommendations from the Transportation Committee for the City Council’s consideration on the airport noise matter. These recommendations include:
- Implement landing fees for all transient aircraft and Torrance-based flight schools/fleets of more than 3 aircraft, with certain exemptions for military, public safety, and medical flights,
- Implement the draft Letter of Agreement between Torrance-based flight schools and the City of Torrance,
- Conduct a noise study to potentially expand the current number of noise monitoring stations in both the South and North patterns, and
- Explore a total phasing out of leaded gas in 10-15 years.
Additionally, the City Attorney's Office will give an update on two additional items:
- Research and present information on the legalities of eliminating touch and go’s from both the South and North runways, and
- Research and present information on implementing a moratorium on the allowance of additional flight schools at Torrance.
As always, the City Council meeting is open to the public and there will be time allotted for public comments. For your awareness, all comments emailed by 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2023, will be included as a “Supplemental” on the City’s website prior to the meeting. Comments received after 5:30 p.m., but prior to the end of the meeting will be added to the record.
